Wine Tasting Notes - Cline Cellars

California wines were featured in the recent Eat Harvest, a prime event at the 15th Annual Eat Vancouver. Wines representing different wine regions were paired with sumptuous dishes created by local and visiting chefs across Canada. Here are the 4 wines from Cline Cellars in Sonoma County:

   Cashmere Exquisite White Blend 2016 – $25

Cashmere is a new tier from Cline Cellars with strong focus on blending. This white blend of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Viognier and Muscat exemplifies what a good job Cline is doing. Only the Chardonnay saw some oak while the rest were fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain freshness. Smooth on the palate with aromas of white peach and Anjou pear whiffing generously, followed by a hint of toasty herbs. Available at private wine stores.

Cashmere Exquisite Red Blend 2015 – $30.

This is a blend of classic French varietals of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. Fermented separately in stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak with 25% new for over 6 months, the structure is enticing and savoury. Whiffs of cherries and dark plum and lingering dark fruits on the palate, finishing off nicely with dried sage and blackened cedar.

Cline Cellars Old Vine Zinfandel 2015 - $17

Harvested from old vines in the Lodi area, this full-bodied zinfandel is infused with ripened berry bouquet. Subtle dried figs and a touch of spicy smokiness line the back end. The maturity and harmony provided by old vines are obvious, adding characters and depth to the wine.

Cline Cellar Ancient Vines Zinfandel 2015 – $30.

Aptly named Ancient, the fruits for this wine is from vines 100 years old. 7 months in American oak, this full-bodied red of 15% alcohol is as attractive as the name. Slight hints of cinnamon and red dates call for attention. Jammy plum and strawberry enrich palate flow and soft ending.
