With 308 restaurants waiting to pamper your palates during the 17-day Dine Out Festival 2018, choosing which ones to indulge proves to be a bigger challenge this year. Though there are only a dozen or so wine and beverage focused events, they are specially designed and professionally crafted for drink enthusiasts. And the rhythm, the atmosphere, the food, the glasses and fun are piling up high.

Since 2001, Dine Out Vancouver has become ‘THE’ eat event during the shoulder season in the winter to arm participating restaurants the tools to do well and for the public the excuse to go out there in the cold and wet to enhance their culinary adventure. The fact that Dine Out smartly teams up with Wine of BC not only give BC wine industry a big push but allows diners the added experience to raise a glass or two at the Dine Out tables. For visitors who come here to feel and taste the embrace what is truly a total British Columbia experience.

Wines from old and new wineries of all regions, including Similkameen Valley, will be in the line-ups in most participating restaurants. No matter what price points of the dine-out menu may be, the wine selections will not disappoint. To give a good example, Kaya Malay Bistro ($20) offers 2 reds from Gehringer Brothers (Oliver) and Backyard Vineyars (Langley);  and 2 whites from Red Rooster (Penticton) and Gray Monk, one of the founding estate wineries in BC,  to go with their exotic choices from 3 appetizer platters and 3 mains.

For craft beer fans, the popular “East Vancouver Craft Beer and Food Tour” sells out fast. “Urban Wine & Distillery Tour” to satisfy spirit seekers. There are 4 “The BC VQA wine brunch”: at the Hart House, the Pinnacle Hotel at the Pier, at Forage in the Listel Hotel and Boulevard at the Sutton Place Hotel. Different venue, different ambiance and unique cuisines. But there will be 4 or 5 BC VQA wineries pouring 2 wines no matter where you go. “The Brewmaster’s Dinner” pairs beer with dinner while “Australia Day wine dinner at Café Medina” takes wine-pairing to a higher elevation. The two “Spirited Masterclasses”:  Scotland’s classical Malts & blended Whisky and Bitters 101 may sound heavy-duty, but you are going home with a lot more.
