Moon Festival Celebrations at the Pan Pacific Vancouver
Moon Cakes are traditionally given to friends and family members as a token of friendship, longevity and good luck. The Pan Pacific Vancouver will present their unique Ice Wine Moon Cake to each guest at the Moon Festival Sunday Brunch, September 19. The lavish buffet will feature the luxury hotel’s most popular items including fresh seafood, carved Alberta beef, omelets made to order as well as specialties from China, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia and Korea.

News from SWEENEY’S of Yaletown
Executive Chef Glenn Saunders and his team are making even more magic with their convection oven. From 5pm nightly, Sweeney’s offers a new dinner menu – with table service – rewarding the adventurous who fearlessly tread the mean streets of NOHE with a surprising range of items. Using local ingredients wherever possible, often organic or natural, starters include a refreshing yellow tomato gazpacho and a salad composed of spot prawns, cherry tomatoes, black olives and barrel feta with a yuzu lime dressing. Mains include the now famous lunchtime staple, meatloaf sandwich (strong enough for a man but made for a women), as well as Peace Valley lamb sirloin and a tostada made with Fraser Valley pork tenderloin. Guests can cap off dinner on our micro patio with cappuccino mousse topped with Guinness foam.
They could talk about their, always double shot, Salt Spring coffee but instead they’d talk about what they want you to drink with your meal – Choose a beer from a unique list put together by Barry Benson, the ‘B’, in R&B Brewing, or some wine from Sweeney’s brief and concise wine list. With an emphasis on quality and value, bottles top out at $30 and all our wines are available in 100 ml (perfect for lunch time or that “just another half a glass would be perfect”) and 200 ml servings as well.

Commune Café opens for business
COMMUNE CAFE, providing Vancouverites with a unique experience in quality casual dining is now opened at 1002 Seymour St. in downtown Vancouver.
Chef Tina Fineza (Flying Tiger, Les Faux Bourgeois, La Taqueria) has developed an all day menu for COMMUNE CAFE showcasing local, seasonal and fresh items sourced from Vancouver’s abundant small producers, farmers, butchers & bakers. Look for standouts such as house made Porchetta panini with mozzarella, smoked paprika aioli and roasted peppers; Sangak Iranian Flatbread Pizza with caramelized onion, crème fraiche, bacon; Wild Oregon Pink Shrimp with tarragon mayonnaise on Goldilocks brioche hoagie; and Lemon Roasted Fraser Valley Chicken, kalamata & green olives, tomato, feta & orzo.
Rawlinson (C, Au Petit Chavignol) has put together a team of counter service staff to showcase an A- list of wines from smaller British Columbia wineries, top Canadian Craft beers and a neat package of Coffees from 49th Parallel and Premium Loose Leaf Teas from Shaktea will round out the beverage program.
The Award-Winning Designer, Evoke International, has created a contemporary space to include 26 seats inside (including a large communal table) and another 24 on a beautiful street side patio. The design of Commune Cafe utilizes light woods, recycled felt upholstery, cork pendants, custom wood tables and bright red chairs to create a contemporary and inclusive room. The space is organized around the service counter, with large food display units and menu boards viewable from any location. A large scale, vibrant Miro-inspired mural depicts a time when the cafe was the hub of social life and the inspiration for the exchange of ideas and creativity.

An Evening with the Duke of Wellington
Save the date for an evening of pithy cheers, silly hats and Beef Wellington in honour of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (November 14th, 1769 to September 14th, 1852). Arthur Wellesley was a soldier, a statesman and a leading military and political figure of the nineteenth century. Cuisine d’Été at Bistro Pastis closes with end-of-summer flavours from Auvergne and Gascony
What: Bistro Pastis concludes its culinary ramble through France in the Auvergne and Gascony. The Massif Central, the rugged terrain of central France, informs the flavours of this region.
